Clare Burns

Clare has been working as a ski instructor in Val d’Isère for the last 14 years.   Originally from Buffalo, New York, she learned to ski at the age of four and raced from a young age on the icy hills of upstate New York and Vermont where bulletproof ice was the norm.   She is the first American woman to achieve the highest level French ski instructor qualification (Moniteur National – 1er degré – Option Ski Alpin), from L’ENSA in Chamonix.

While in the US, Clare earned a dual degree in English and French Literature from Middlebury College and was a member of the National Ski Patrol.  After a brief foray into the legal sector in Manhattan, she fled the corporate world to pursue her passion for skiing and the mountains in the French Alps.
More recently, Clare has turned to the world of competitive freeskiing and is a regular competitor on the North American and European freeride circuits.

She would love to take you off-piste and show you the backcountry of Val d’Isère and Tignes.   Whether you want to hone your freeriding skills, blast through a GS course, carve up the groomers, or just make it down a blue run, she is dedicated to improving your skiing and helping you to achieve your goals.   A patient and enthusiastic coach, she will help you to boost your confidence, gain control, and overcome your fears on the slopes.

In the summer months, Clare can be found riding her bike, translating legal documents, climbing mountains, or chasing snow in South America.   To find out more about Clare visit www.clareburns.com
